Clean & Safe Ambassador Program
The Clean and Safe Ambassador Program is the most comprehensive service offered by the CDC that is specifically designed to enhance the quality of life in emerging neighborhoods and especially along key commercial corridors by making it clean, safe, and welcoming. The program, at full implementation is responsible for providing clean and safe services to a geographic area of approximately 20 blocks.
The goal of the Clean and Safe Ambassador Program is to make the Anacostia commercial corridor a clean, safe, and inviting place for living, working, visiting, shopping, dining, and experiencing. Ambassadors are visible, mobile, and responsive. Ambassadors provide the highest level of hospitality and customer service possible—they are friendly, personable, approachable, knowledgeable, and able to handle situations involving conflict. They greet and welcome visitors, and provide directions and other hospitality services as needed. They are the eyes and ears of the corridor—reporting problems to be addressed to the appropriate authorities. Services include security patrols on the streets and in parking garages and lots, sidewalk maintenance, event assistance, providing battery jumps, safety escorts from work to car, finding lost cars, and CPR and First Aid services. The Clean and Safe Ambassador team works closely with numerous levels of municipal government. These partnerships are a crucial part to managing a successful program.
Current staffing patterns consist of one (1) full time program manager and twenty (20) full- and part-time clean and safe ambassadors on rotation. Ambassadors operate seven days a week and provide additional late-night security and parking patrol on weekends. Generally, the shifts that Safety Ambassadors operate are Monday-Saturday, 12pm-11pm, Sundays, 12pm-6pm, with additional parking patrols Thursday-Saturday, 12am-2am and Sunday, 7pm-12am.
During special events, the Ambassadors will make necessary adjustments to maintain the performance standards along the corridor.
